School of Languages - Faculty of Humanities and Arts National University of Rosario (UNR)

Spanish courses for non-Spanish speakers at the UNR

We offer courses of study that enable students to obtain a strong comprehension of the written and oral Spanish language.

Detail of Courses

- Regular Course:
Meets for 1.5 hours, three times a week for 2 weeks. Courses begin in March and end in December (Consult Beginning dates). These courses are designed for beginner and intermediate speakers and would be ideal for travellers and/or students who remain in Rosario for at least 2 weeks.

- Intensive Course:
Meets for 20 hours a week for 2 or 4 weeks (Consult Beginning dates)

- Intensive summer course (month of July):
Meets 20 hours a week for 4 weeks. This course begins in July of every year.

The school is located in the heart of Rosario. The school facilities are of good quality and the professors are well-qualified, native Spanish speakers with a permanent support staff. Each student will receive customized attention from the professors.

The courses include comprehension level testing, study material and a final examination.

Other specialized classes can be taken along with any of the above-listed courses.

For those taking group courses, micro-seminaries of Argentine history, music, politics, economics, customs, tourism and geography can be added to give the students a better understanding of Argentina’s culture. The cultural programs share activities with Argentine students.

Participants
The courses are geared toward students that wish or need to learn the culture and language of Argentina, such as foreign university students, tourists, travellers, and personnel of foreign companies with branches in Argentina.

Objectives
The course goals are to help students to:
• understand and use the Spanish language,
• recognize and reproduce different types of speech, from colloquial to formal, and
• learn, understand and “live” the Hispano-American culture.

Optional International Certification
In November 2005, the Advice Directive of Faculty of Humanities and Arts adopted and the Advice Superior of UNR accredited DUCLE (Diploma Universitario De Competencia en Lengua Española como Lengua Extranjera), which is a Universal Diploma of Competence in the Spanish Language as a Foriegn Language. DUCLE fits within international parameters comparable to the DELE of the Cervantes Institute or the CILE of the National University of Mexico and within SICELE (Sistema Internacional de Certificación del Español como Lengua Extranjera), which is the International System of Certification of Spanish as a Foreign Language.

The SICELE model is shared and followed by Spanish-speaking communities. The system unifies the criteria and methods of evaluation for granting Diplomas de Español (Diplomas of Spanish) to non-Spanish speakers. SICELE’s seal of approval guarantees the quality of the language certification. (Agreement of Salamanca, October of 2005)

The examination for international certification may be taken after completing any of the courses whether the student’s comprehension level is beginner, intermediate or advanced. The diploma will certify the student’s comprehension level.
